How to Apply Trubuild Rooftect Pro Roof Coating?
Surface Preparation
Known how to apply roof coating for waterproofing the surface effectively.
1. Clean the Surface
Remove all loose and damaged materials, oil, dirt, and debris from the surface. If there are any existing membrane waterproofing coatings, remove them mechanically to ensure proper adhesion of the new coating.
2. Repair Cracks
- For cracks up to 5 mm: Create a “V” groove along the crack and fill it with Trubuild CFP 425.
- For cracks larger than 5 mm: Use Trubuild WPL 333 or Trubuild BWP 222 to prepare a polymer-modified mortar and fill the cracks.
3. Angle Fillet at Junctions
Create an angle fillet at wall and slab junctions using a mortar mix with Trubuild BWP 222 (10-12% of cement weight). Repair all patches and joints with Trubuild Non-Shrink Grout HS to ensure the surface is solid and even.
4. Maintain Proper Slope
Ensure the roof has a slope of 1:80 to 1:100 to allow water to drain completely. Fix any low spots or uneven areas causing water stagnation using polymer-modified mortar.
5. Seal Penetration Points
Ensure all mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, solar panels, and other penetration points are properly placed on upstands. Seal and round them with an angle fillet and Resipro High Strength Hybrid Sealant for added protection.
6. Prepare Tiled Surfaces
- Ensure china mosaic and other roofing tiles (e.g., ceramic, marble, clay, granite) are firmly bedded, primed, and grouted with Trubuild Primesure Premium before applying the topcoat.
- For cracks up to 5 mm on china mosaic tiles, cut and fill them with Trubuild CFP 425.
7. Fill Tile Joints
- Mix Trubuild Non-Shrink Cementitious Grout or Trubuild Tile Grout with Trubuild BWP 222 to achieve the desired consistency.
- Use a spatula or putty knife to fill tile joints. Clean and buff the area within 1-2 hours to remove any residue.
By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth, durable, and reliable waterproof roof coating for your roof surface.
Application
- Before applying Trubuild Rooftect Pro acrylic waterproof coating, prepare a self-primer by diluting the product with 33% water (by weight). Ensure the surface is in a Saturated Surface Dry (SSD) condition before applying the primer. The primer should be applied at a coverage rate of approximately 8-10 sq. m. per litre, which depends on the substrate condition, and allowed to dry for 4-6 hours.
- For smooth surfaces or where additional bond strength is required, Trubuild Primesure Premium is recommended. Apply it undiluted using a brush, with a coverage rate of 120-150 sq. ft. per litre per coat. For further guidance, you can contact the Trubuild Technical Services Team.
- Once the primer coat has dried, apply the first coat of Trubuild Rooftect Pro, rooftop waterproofing membrane horizontally without any dilution, to ensure a coverage rate of 1.85-1.95 sq. m. per litre per coat. Allow this roof coating to dry for at least 4-6 hours.
- To enhance the tensile properties of the coating, especially over joints, a 45-50 GSM fibre mesh can be embedded as a sandwiched layer between the first and second coats. After this, apply the second coat vertically without dilution.
- For forced system applications, maintain a coverage rate of 0.93 sq. m. per litre. Finally, let the roof membrane waterproofing air-cure for a minimum of 7-10 days to ensure long-lasting performance.

Limitations and Precautions
When using Trubuild Rooftect Pro for rooftop waterproofing, it is essential to follow these guidelines for optimal results and durability.
- Ensure that all previous roof coating or membrane waterproofing treatments are fully removed and the surface is cleaned thoroughly.
- Avoid applying the product if the substrate temperature is below 10°C or above 40°C, and relative humidity exceeds 75%.
- Mix the product well using a low RPM paddle mixer to achieve a homogeneous blend.
- Application during intermittent rain or on surfaces with standing or runoff water should be avoided.
- Conduct a pond test after air-curing the acrylic waterproof coating for at least 7-10 days to ensure proper sealing.
- Ensure the roof surface is completely dry and free from standing water before application.
- Use the correct quantity of cool roof coating in one go to avoid contamination. Do not mix any water or emulsion, as it may affect the durability and performance.
- Always use clean brushes and rollers for application to prevent foreign material from compromising the roof coating.
- Store the material in a shaded area and keep the container tightly closed when not in use to avoid skinning.
- Use an air blower (not hot air) to remove dust from the surface before applying the membrane waterproofing system.
- Avoid applying Trubuild Rooftect Pro on surfaces intended to retain water, such as tanks or pools.
- Ensure the substrate is fully cured according to standard construction practices before applying the acrylic waterproof coating.
- Both sides of parapet walls should be coated with Trubuild Rooftect Pro for complete rooftop waterproofing.
- Avoid placing items like stone, paver blocks, or earthen pots on coated surfaces, as they may damage the coating.
- For miscellaneous surfaces, consult the Trubuild technical service team for advice.
- Follow the prescribed application system and coverage to minimise air bubbles and ensure proper bonding with the substrate.
Lastly, always refer to the guidelines and contact a Trubuild technical sales representative if needed, to ensure the success of your roof waterproofing system.
